Suno

What it is and who it's for

Suno is a music generator that turns a text prompt into a complete song: vocals, instrumental, structure and mix. It's for content creators, marketers and hobbyists who need a jingle, a background track, an ad song or a demo — without musicians or a studio. What sets it apart is vocal quality (the v5.5 model has a human timbre, breathing and phrasing) and a full web DAW, "Suno Studio", with stems and editing.

Key capabilities

  • A whole song from a prompt: genre, mood, lyrics in — vocals plus music out.
  • Bring your own lyrics or auto-generate them; set the style with words or a reference.
  • Voices/Personas — capture and reuse a voice (Pro/Premier).
  • Suno Studio — a generative DAW: up to 12 stems, EQ, Warp Markers, Remove FX.
  • Custom models / "My Taste" — tuning to your own catalogue and taste.
  • Audio and stem export, plus an API for embedding it in your product.

Get started in 5 minutes

  1. Sign up at suno.com — the free tier gives you a few songs a day.
  2. Hit Create, describe the genre/mood/topic (or paste your own lyrics), set the style — you get a track in about a minute.
  3. Polish it in Suno Studio (stems, length, transitions) and download the mp3/wav.

When to use it and when not to

  • ✅ Use it if you need a fast, ready-to-go track/jingle/demo with vocals and no musicians.
  • ✅ Use it if you care about vocal quality and want to edit stem by stem in Studio.
  • ❌ Skip it → go with "Udio" if surgical re-generation of a single section (inpainting) and clean licensing (the UMG deal) matter to you.
  • ❌ Skip it → go with "Mureka" if you need strong non-English vocals, MIDI export and a DAW API for production.

The honest price

A free tier with a daily song limit and non-commercial use; the paid Pro/Premier plans add more credits, commercial rights, Voices and Studio. Exact figures are on the provider's site and change over time.

Pitfalls

  • The legal status of the training data is contested: Suno settled with Warner but is still in litigation with Sony (a fair use ruling is expected in summer 2026) — check what rights your plan grants before commercial use.
  • Cloning someone else's voice or an artist's style without permission is a legal and ethical risk.
  • Long or complex arrangements sometimes drift structurally — Studio and re-generation fix that.
  • Simple prompts give you that recognizable "AI sound" — you need a detailed style prompt and some polish.

🤖 Prompt accelerator

"I'm making a <jingle / background track / song> in Suno for <a video/brand/podcast>. Help me put the prompt together: genre, tempo (BPM), mood, vocals (male/female/none), sonic references; write lyrics that fit a runtime with a clear structure (verse/chorus). Give me 2-3 style prompt options and tell me what to fix up stem by stem in Studio."
