What happened
Anthropic has introduced a major update to its Claude AI assistant for macOS, called Computer Use. The new feature lets Claude control the computer's mouse and keyboard, interacting with interface elements the way a person does. Users can issue text commands for the AI to perform actions on screen, including clicking UI elements, opening desktop applications and browsing web pages. The update adds two new features: Cowork and Dispatch. Cowork lets users assign the model tasks inside local folders, moving beyond plain text conversation — especially useful for non-technical users and multi-step operations such as sorting files or preparing documents.
Dispatch adds remote computer control. A user can send a text command from a phone, and Claude can wake up the Mac or Windows machine at home, open the necessary files, process the data and prepare a report before the owner is even back. The system works in the background, continuing tasks even with the laptop closed. Scheduled jobs can run even when the device is offline. Computer Use and Cowork are available to Pro and Max subscribers, while Dispatch is Max only. The Max plan costs between 100 and 200 dollars a month, while users on other tiers wait on a waitlist.
