What it is and why
Payment bots (Tribute, Paywall and similar) let you sell access, subscriptions and donations right inside Telegram — with no website, no complex integration and no business bank account. The buyer pays in a couple of taps and the bot grants access itself (adds them to a private channel or sends the product). Reach for them to monetise a Telegram audience: a paid channel, a content subscription, donations, a digital product.
How to set it up (step by step)
- Pick an official service (Tribute/Paywall) — follow the link from their own site or a trusted source, and double-check the bot's @username.
- Connect your channel or bot through the service (authorise in Telegram).
- Create a product: a paid channel subscription, one-off access, a donation button, a digital item. Prices in rubles.
- Link a payout method (card or wallet).
- Place the payment button or link in your public showcase channel, a post, or the description.
- The customer pays without leaving Telegram → the bot grants access automatically (an invite to the private channel, or the item itself).
- For subscriptions the bot renews and charges on its own, and removes access when someone cancels.
- Withdraw the money (mind the minimum amount and the payout timing).
Ready-made recipe
A paid private club in Telegram: a public showcase channel with announcements → a "join the club" button (Tribute) → the subscriber pays monthly → the bot adds them to the private channel and charges automatically every month → if payment fails, it removes them → all you do is publish content. Subscription income lands on your card; you declare the tax yourself (as an individual or self-employed — see the payment cards by legal form).
What it costs (honestly)
How it works: no subscription fee, a commission per payment (Tribute is around 10% as a reference point — verify it; other services differ). You pay for speed and for skipping the paperwork. Exact commissions, limits and payout timings are with the service and they change.
When it fits / when it doesn't
- Fits: monetising a Telegram audience; a paid channel, subscription or donations; getting started with no site and no code; small to mid-sized turnover.
- Doesn't fit: you need acquiring on a website, a low commission, instalments, or to work with legal entities (register an IP/OOO and use YuKassa/Prodamus); large recurring turnover (the commission stops being worth it).
Risks and responsibility (Telegram specifics)
- Enter payment details only in verified, official bots. Check the @username and the verification badge, and follow the link from the official site. Beware of copycat bots — scammers clone the interface to steal cards and money.
- Never trust a "payment form" sent by a stranger in DMs — that is a common scam.
- Taxes are on you: the income is taxable (personal income tax for an individual, NPD for the self-employed) — declare it yourself. See the payment cards by legal form.
- 152-FZ: if you collect subscriber data, you need consent. Advertising someone else's product in the channel requires ORD labelling.
- More detail is in the section disclaimer at the top.
🤖 Prompt helper
You are a consultant on selling in Telegram through payment bots. I sell "{subscription/access/donations}" to an audience of about {size}. Help me: (1) choose a service (Tribute/Paywall) and verify that a bot is the official one, not a copycat; (2) set up the product and the payment button step by step; (3) decide which legal form fits (individual/self-employed) and how to pay the tax; (4) build a safety checklist so I do not get scammed. Practical. (Not tax advice — check the details with a specialist.)
