When to use it
When you're applying for a specific job and you want the resume to hit the requirements, get past the automated filters and catch the recruiter's eye. The role is a picky recruiter / career coach. Output: a point-by-point match against the posting, the gaps, rewritten accomplishments and the missing keywords. The calls on facts stay with you.
The prompt (copy and paste)
You are a recruiter who decides a resume's fate in 6 seconds, and also a career coach. Help me tailor my resume to a job posting.
JOB POSTING (requirements and responsibilities): "<PASTE THE POSTING>".
MY RESUME: "<PASTE THE RESUME>".
Do this:
1. Requirement match: a table of Requirement → Do I have it (yes / partly / no) → where it appears in the resume.
2. Gaps and risks: what's missing, what might put them off (inconsistencies, vague wording, filler).
3. Rewrite 5-7 experience bullets using "action + tool + measurable result" (action verbs, numbers). Don't invent facts — where a metric is needed, leave "<number>".
4. Keywords from the posting that are missing from the resume (this matters for ATS filters) — and where I could honestly add them.
5. Verdict: would they call me in as is, and the top 3 edits that would raise my odds the most.
Be honest but constructive. Don't attribute skills or achievements to me that I don't have.
Filled-in example
Posting: "product manager, must have: metrics, A/B testing, SQL, team leadership". Resume: product experience, but vague accomplishments ("improved the product", "worked with analytics").
What the AI should come back with: a match table (metrics — partly; A/B — not mentioned; SQL — no; team — yes); gaps (no numbers, no sign of A/B or SQL); rewritten bullets — "Launched A/B tests on onboarding, conversion +
Variations
- Cover letter. "Write a short cover letter for this posting based on my resume."
- Interview prep. "What will they ask me about this resume and where are my weak spots?"
- For ATS. "Check whether this resume gets through automated filters: format, keywords, structure."
Pro tips
- The biggest lever is putting numbers on your accomplishments: "improved the product" loses to "raised conversion by 18% in 2 months". The AI rewrites the phrasing, but you supply the numbers — real ones.
- Never claim skills you don't have: it surfaces in the interview and destroys trust. That's what "don't invent" in the prompt is for; only add keywords that are honest.
- Tailor the resume to the posting instead of using one for everything: the match table shows what to highlight for this particular role. For another job, run it again.
