AI product photography

What it is

Replacing expensive still-life and fashion shoots with generation: the product is placed into any scene (a studio backdrop, a lifestyle interior, on a model with the look you need) from a prompt, a single source photo or the packaging. Hyper-realistic product images "without a camera".

Where it came from

It started with niche services like Photoroom (cut out the background, drop the product onto a new one), then came the jump in realism in FLUX/Nano Banana/GPT Image and the arrival of "on-model" (dressing a generated model in your clothing). By 2025 this had become a standard part of the e-commerce pipeline rather than an experiment.

Why it took off

  • Economics. A classic shoot costs tens to hundreds of dollars per SKU; an AI frame costs a few dollars. For a catalogue of thousands of items the difference is decisive.
  • Speed and variety. Seasonal scenes, A/B backgrounds, per-market localization — in minutes, with no studio or model logistics.
  • Quality caught up. Light, shadows, reflections and texture are now believable enough for marketplaces.

How to use it today

  1. Background/scene: Photoroom or Nano Bananaput this product on a light marble table, soft studio light, reflection, photorealistic.
  2. On a model: the fashion modes in Freepik/Magnific, Leonardo AI, or dedicated on-model services.
  3. Finishing: upscale and clean-up (Magnific, Krea AI). The result is a ready set of images for the marketplace.

What to watch out for

  • Accuracy. You must not "paint in" product properties (what is in the box, the colour, the material) — that misleads the buyer and hits you on returns and advertising law.
  • AI hands, labels and logos love to come out distorted — check the details before publishing.
  • Marketplaces are introducing rules for synthetic imagery — track each platform's policy.
