Hyper-personalization in marketing

What it is

Hyper-personalization is the shift from "segment A/B/C" to a message built for one specific person: AI reads behavior and picks the content, the offer, the image and the send time individually, in real time.

Where it came from

Recommendation engines (Amazon, Netflix) set the bar for "personal", but that used to require large data teams. GenAI removed the barrier in 2024–25: content and creatives for a micro-segment are now generated on the fly (Klaviyo, Salesforce Einstein, Persado).

Why it took off

The hyper-personalization market is worth ~$25.7B in 2025 (18.1% CAGR). Marketers report that AI personalization lifts revenue by +41% and CTR by roughly 13%. 71% of customers expect personal communication and 76% get annoyed without it. Image generation inside emails grew 340% in a year.

How to apply it now

  1. Start with dynamic content in email/push: personal CTAs, product recommendations, send timing.
  2. Feed the model clean behavioral data (opens, clicks, purchases) — garbage in, garbage out.
  3. Test personalized vs template campaigns — count the revenue lift, not the opens.
  4. The chain: CDP/CRM → AI engine → delivery channel.

What to watch out for

The line between "personal" and "creepy" is thin — too much precision scares people off. There are strict requirements around consent and personal data handling (GDPR, and 152-ФЗ in Russia). Content that feels "too AI" and samey at scale damages the brand.
